R.A.D. Camps is an outdoor recreation program designed to give kids, ages 7-17, the opportunity to explore exciting places while learning about their natural surroundings. These interpretive guided adventures expand kids' knowledge and interest in Oregon's natural wonders while promoting a healthy, fun lifestyle.
R.A.D. Camps operates under a special use permit with the United States Forest Service and emphasizes safety, fun, camaraderie, and an appreciation for the natural world .
All R.A.D. Camps will be accompanied by a Wilderness First Responder and a professional lifeguard!
R.A.D. Camps are based out of beautiful Bend, OR and all adventures are in the surrounding area. R.A.D. Guides have many years of experience working with youth and are passionate about teaching how to explore the great outdoors while being "impact free." R.A.D. Camps provides an opportunity for kids to enjoy and learn about the environment.
R.A.D. Guides have unique personalities that enable them to connect with people and that kids can easily relate to. These guides believe that it is crucial to the wellbeing of adolescents to start learning about and enjoying nature at a young age. This interaction with nature will enable kids to grow in a healthy active lifestyle and enjoy the outdoors throughout their lives.
“No Child Left Inside!!”
In the words of author Richard Louv (2008) in his book Last Child in the Woods, “… adult concern for, and behavior related to, the environment derives directly from participating in such ‘wild nature activities’ as playing independently in the woods, hiking, fishing, and hunting before the age of eleven.” Louv cites numerous studies and anecdotal observations showing how important “free play” and “natural play time” are for kids when they are growing up and highlights the benefits obtained from these activities. R.A.D. Camps is committed to getting kids outside enjoying Oregon, please join us!
A typical day consists of meeting at Harmon Park at 8am and heading to the day’s destination in the RAD Van. Once at the trailhead, kids put on their backpacks and head down the trail to identify plants and animals. Kids are encouraged to bring their own cameras to shoot pictures of their experience. The group will participate in outdoor games and swimming, eat lunch, and explore the area. A main focus of the program is to teach kids to appreciate and respect the environment while leaving no trace. After having the time of their lives, the campers will head down the trail back to the RAD Van for the ride home.
"We love R.A.D camps! It has been an amazing experience for our son Alder. He is getting out and enjoying some of the most beautiful places that Central Oregon has to offer. There is nothing better then your kid spending the day hiking, swimming, caving and making new friends including frogs! R.A.D. Camps have created a wonderful outlet for kids to experience things they might not have ever experienced before. We are thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful program and we look forward to getting "RAD" every summer!"

"R.A.D. Camps is the only camp our son wants to go to this summer. Our experience with R.A.D.Camps has been first class. They have taken their passion for the out of doors and combined it with the simple pleasures of hiking, exploring, and learning. We are thrilled with what the R.A.D. Camps adventure has to offer."

"Participation in R.A.D. Camps has been such a positive thing for my family. My two sons are looking forward to their third summer with R.A.D. Camps and will be joined by their younger sister this year! I am continually being amazed by the skills, knowledge and personal growth they have acquired through this experience. As well as building self-confidence, the program has also allowed them to build new friendships and establish a lasting connection to our beautiful state!"

"R.A.D. Camps have been wonderful for our son Sam. In addition to fun and adventure, R.A.D. Camps have taught Sam to identify plants and animals, to be safe and start him down the road to self reliance and appreciation of the natural world. Now our seven year old daughter can't wait to start this summer."
