R.A.D. Camps explores over 50 unique summer locations and operates under a special use permit in the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests. We have designed programs that give kids ages 7-17 the opportunity to explore pristine destinations while learning about their natural surroundings. R.A.D. Camps emphasizes fun, free play, camaraderie, and an appreciation for the natural world.
A typical day consists of meeting at 8AM and driving to the day’s destination in one of our R.A.D. vans. Once at the trailhead, kids put on their backpacks and hit the trail to the destination of the day. The groups play games together, swim, eat lunch, become familiar with local flora and fauna, explore the area, and use their imaginations to have fun in the natural surroundings. A main focus of the program is to teach kids to appreciate and respect the environment while practicing "Leave No Trace" principles. After having the time of their lives, campers head back to the R.A.D. van for the ride home - arriving around 4PM.
All R.A.D. Camps guides must complete a background check and attend "Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting" training. Each trip is led by a Wilderness First Responder (or higher) and professional lifeguard, and is accompanied by both male and female guides. Pickup/Drop-off Times and Location: Meet at 8AM and return at 4PM at Highland Elementary School (701 NW Newport Avenue). Trips include transportation, a guided interpretive tour of the day’s location, and a whole lot of fun!
Teen Van: These trips are reserved for participants between the ages of 13-17. These days are longer and the vans do not return until 5:00 pm! Pricing: $75 for day trips Trip locations subject to change.
Cancellations: If a reservation is cancelled 7 days or more before an adventure begins, there will be a 90% refund.
